Mr. Ditzenberger, 9th Grade Bible
Time: 5 Periods Unit-Establishing a Nation Week: 11 Dates: March 31st-April 4th
1. Students will learn about the broken promise of the Israelites by creating a newspaper article relating to the events as described in the Bible.
2. Students will write a newspaper article summarizing the ascension of Moses on Mt. Sinai.
3. Students will read Scriptures related to Exodus 33 and 34 and reflect on what type of relationship they want with God.
4. Students will reflect on their skills and the purposes of those skills based on biblical teaching.
5. Students will answer questions relating to work and listening to God.
Monday
1. What does the Tabernacle teach us about God?
1. God wants to live with His people. The tabernacle was God’s idea.
2. God wants to be in the center of our lives. The tabernacle was placed in the center of the tribes of Israel.
3. God is holy. The tabernacle was fenced off to Israel. Only the high priest could enter the holy of holies once a year.
4. Man is sinful.
5. God is serious about sin.
6. Sacrifice is the way to God. The brazen altar is the first thing you see when you enter the tabernacle grounds. Sacrifices are costly – cattle and sheep were among the most valuable possessions of that time. Sacrifices are violent. Innocent life dies for guilty life – substitution.
7. Skits-prepare for skits on one of these aspects.
8. Perform skits.
Tuesday
1. Moses Ascends the mountain –
Ex. 19:3-8a, Ex. 19:8b-15, Ex. 19:16-25, Ex. 20:21; 24:3, Ex. 24:12, Ex. 32:30, Ex. 34:1-5
2. 32:24 - humorous
3. Make a newspaper article for ch. 32.-Title, Summary, Interview, Picture.
Wednesday
1. Handout – Ex. 33-34
2. Related Scriptures-Ps. 34:5, Lk. 9:28-36, 2 Cor. 3:12-18, Jam. 4:8
3. What kind of a relationship do you want with God? You can be as close to God as you want to be.
Thursday
Part 1
1. What talents or skills do you think you have?
2. Pass out sticky notes and have students write down their name and their talents/skills.
3. Teacher reads the notes and students guess who the student is.
4. Have them walk around and get clues from other students.
5. Have them guess which student’s sticky note they are wearing.
Part 2
1. Read Ex. 35:4-36:7 with emotion
2. What do you learn about God?
3. 1 Pet. 4:10-11; Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12
4. The sooner you realize that your particular interests/skills are God-given the sooner you can begin to pursue and develop them for God’s glory.
Friday
How do you feel when your parents give you work to do?
How would you feel if God gave you a job to do?
How can you determine your God-given work?
1. Listen to God
2. Listen to others
3. Listen to yourself-Desire, Experience, Abilities, Personality
Handout – Listening to God
1. Moses, Gideon, Jeremiah, Paul…
2. To be sure they are doing God’s will
3. You know you are going the right way. You might not like what you hear. You might not use your God-given brains as much.
4. Maybe their not listening or maybe that is not God’s usual way of communicating.
5. Perhaps God speaks in a quieter way most of the time and we have to pay attention.
