Mr. Ditzenberger, 9th Grade Bible
Time: 4 Periods Unit 7-10 Commandments Week: 7 Dates: Feb 25th-29th
1. Students will analyze contemporary issues relating to the command to not murder and report on the results of their research and analysis to the class.
2. Students will differentiate between Jesus’ use of the word fool and the use of the word fool by people when it leads to murder.
3. Students will reflect on different aspects of anger and how it can affect them personally.
Monday
1. Hebrew word can be translated either way. -“Kill” – ASV, RSV, NAB, KJV; “Murder” – NIV-Neither accidental killing (Numbers 35:22-25) nor justifiable homicide (Ex. 22:2) are a breaking of the sixth commandment. Neither killing in war nor capital punishment are necessarily forbidden in this commandment since God required both in certain cases (Ex.21:12). So the preferred translation is, “You shall not murder.” All encompassing command and cities of refuge.
2. Divide class into groups and students will: 1. Discuss each issue in relation to the 6th command. 2. Take a survey of opinions on
each issue. 3. Assign one issue for each group to be presented tomorrow-different perspectives, what the Bible teaches in your
opinion, different aspects of the issue.
3. If time permits, write a brief opinion on each issue that explains what you think. Write in complete sentences, and title your
name correctly.
