Time: 5 Periods Unit 7-10 Commandments Week: 6 Dates: Feb 18th-22nd
1. Students will summarize what Jesus taught regarding the Sabbath.
2. Students will explain how they can honor their parents in a variety of situations.
3. Students will develop and present a skit regarding honoring their parents in their culture and write a prayer that they can pray for their parents.
4. Students will compare the evidence for the “kill” versus “murder” translation of the Hebrew for the fifth commandment.
5. Students will debate modern day issues related to the fifth commandment.

Monday
1. Write out: John 4:24, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
2. Write out: 1 John 5:21, Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
3. Sabbath Day continued-perspectives of Christ on the Sabbath-handout.
4. Eric Liddell video. What do you think? Should he have run on the Sabbath? 5. The Sabbath should be a “slice of heaven” on earth (Hugenburger). It prepares us for our ultimate rest in heaven (Heb. 4:8-10).

Tuesday
1. Meaning, Consequences, Tips for honoring your father and mother.
2. Share a story with a neighbor of honoring your parents.
3. How do you honor your parents if one or both don’t live with you?
4. Write out Ephesians 6: 1-3 –teacher-ask questions in lesson plans under Eph 6: 1-3; students answer.
5. Whose parents are on a scale of 9-10 in terms of being controlling? How can you be honoring to your parents when they are controlling?
6. What is the difference between honoring and obeying?
7. Make a list of the 10 best things your parents have done for you. Write a paragraph explaining three things you can do this week to honor your parents.

Wednesday-Jesus and the fifth command
1. Obviously, our obedience to God comes even before our obedience to our parents (Lk. 2:40-52; 12:52-53; 14:25-26). But in
general, God commands us to obey our parents (Lk. 2:51-52).
2. Was Jesus dishonoring his parents in these passages (Lk. 2:40-52; Mk. 3:31-35)?
Read who was at the cross while Jesus was dying there (Jn. 19:25-27)?
3. Skits-honor your father in a way that is special to your culture.
4. Write out a prayer to pray on a regular basis for your parents.

Thursday
1. Meaning, Consequences, Tips for not murdering (not just physical, but in your heart).
2. Hebrew word retzach can be translated either way. -“Kill” – ASV, RSV, NAB, KJV; “Murder” – NIV-Neither accidental killing (Numbers 35:22-25) nor justifiable homicide (Ex. 22:2) are a breaking of the sixth commandment. Neither killing in war nor capital punishment are necessarily forbidden in this commandment since God required both in certain cases (Ex.21:12). So the preferred translation is, “You shall not murder.”

Friday
1. Divide class into groups and students will: 1. Discuss each issue in relation to the 6th command. 2. Take a survey of opinions on each issue. 3. Assign one issue for each group to be presented tomorrow-different perspectives, what the Bible teaches in your opinion, different aspects of the issue.
2. If time permits, write a brief opinion on each issue that explains what you think. Write in complete sentences, and title your name correctly.
