Week 5, Syllabus

Mr. Ditzenberger, 9th Grade Bible
Time: 5 Periods Unit 7-10 Commandments Week: 5 Dates: Feb 11th-15th
1. Students will compare traditional interpretations of the 2nd command.
2. Students will debate whether making an image of Christ is helpful or hurtful in one’s relationship with Christ.
3. Students will create a skit exploring different responses to other people who misuse God’s name.
4. Students will discover the practical applications of keeping the Sabbath day, in light of the NT teaching that Jesus fulfills the Sabbath rest.
5. Students will reflect on the first four commandments and write how they can apply it to their lives.

Monday
1. Yahweh truly. Command 2. Free right on same ideas as yesterday.
2. Read Ex 20:4-6 and discuss (see notes).
3. Controversy surrounding the command.
4. ESV and NASB translations.
5. Possible interpretations
6. Homework-write a paragraph on this question-Is it OK for Christians to make pictures or images of Jesus?

Tuesday
1. Debate-is it right for Christians to make pictures of Jesus?
2. Discussion of pros and cons of this position, focusing on making an image of God.

Wednesday
1. Misusing the Lord’s name.
2. Airplane skit.

Thursday
1. The Sabbath Day.

Friday
1. Write a paragraph summarizing what has been learned about the commandments so far and how your life can be changed because of them. If not completed in class, turn in on Monday.
